The spinach Popeye wished for... Gynura bicolor!

Gynura bicolor aka Okinawa Spinach is an alternative to the traditional green we all know. This Southeast Asian native adds a beautiful purple color to make your landscape or garden pop! Grows well in hardiness zones 9a-11. The leaves and shoots are edible and can be enjoyed raw or cooked and have amazing health benefits. During our Fall Plant Propagation lab the students practiced their layering skills with this beauty! Flowers are rare on this plant but when it does happen they are a bright orange sight to see!
